Crysis 2 Multiplayer

Crysis 2 Multiplayer: The Good and The Bad

The Crysis 2 Multiplayer Demo came to PC and Xbox 360 last week and we posted our impressions last week. After another weekend checking this bad-boy out, we thought we'd visit the discussion again and pinpoint the good's and bad's in the demo.

The Good

The Nanosuit - Invisibility, super jumps, speed and the special nano-vision add variety to the gameplay and aren’t so overpowered as to unbalance the game. The Nanosuit encourages a tactical approach, as simply activating invisibility with no thought-out plan will quickly equate to depleted energy and vulnerability in an open space.

Plenty of Unlockables - For a demo it's surprisingly deep. You can unlock dog tags for your profile and character after completing certain tasks during a match. You can also unlock a number of classes and weapons, and whilst there are only two maps to check out, there is plenty to mess around with in terms of equipment to keep you busy until launch.

Great XP System - XP is earned for a specific category based on the action you perform. For example, if you perform particularly well using stealth perks, your stealth XP will increase at the conclusion of the game. Whilst it feels a lot like Call of Duty's XP system, it at least awards you based on how you actually play, as opposed to how you perform.

Satisfying Combat - There is little inventiveness when it comes to FPS these days, but Crytek must at least be commended for what they're trying to achieve with the Nanosuit. It adds variety to the gameplay. Also, not mapping grenades to a single button slows down the gameplay and, alongside the implementation of the Nanosuit, makes for a more tactical and tense battlefield environment.
